Few would dispute that education plays an important role in society, as it goes far beyond learning academic subjects, and involves the instruction of children and young people to create and foster a fairer, supportive, and egalitarian community.
Regarding my educational background, I have completed my studies in the public school system within the bilingual studies program of the Community of Madrid. Without a doubt, these studies have had a great impact on my development as a person, since they have allowed me to become familiar with a foreign language, in this case, English, from an early age, which, as I see it, is a huge advantage. Moreover, this has allowed me to live unique experiences such as an Erasmus in Bucharest, Romania, after being selected along with six other students to represent our high school in a project called ”Erasmus Plus” carried out by several countries of the European Union. Besides, I can highlight that during the last two years of high school, I chose the humanities itinerary, so I took subjects such as Latin and Greek and discovered my passion for art history and universal literature.
I am influenced mostly by my parents and the teachers I have had during my school years, to whom I am very grateful and are one of the main reasons why I want to dedicate myself to education. Furthermore, I am inspired by films that portray ingenious and innovative education practitioners such as “Dead Poets Society”, “Les Choristes” or “Mona Lisa Smile”; as well as by music and poetry.
What are the key aspects of Education that are important to me?
I have always been interested in the social contribution that education entails, as it allows you to transmit values such as equality, diversity, respect, and tolerance, as well as create an open-minded safe environment for children to develop. As I see it, students should be educated to create citizens capable of thinking critically and autonomously, and that can make rational and responsible decisions as well as solve problems effectively and creatively. I also believe that a fundamental aspect of education is the impact and influence that teachers have in the development of children, participating in the construction of their identity.
What do I want to learn?
I am highly interested in the application of more dynamic, interactive, and useful teaching methods that ensure that students are no longer just passive observers in the classroom and are capable of participating actively, thus promoting interest and motivation. Additionally, I am concerned with the necessary incorporation of new technologies in the field of education, since it is surely beyond dispute that nowadays they are an indispensable tool to strengthen both, teaching and learning.
